Tonight Joe and I watched the excellent Great Performances production (season 52, episode 19) of Kiss Me, Kate, recorded live at the Barbican in London. It was a wonderful production: the choreography, the costumes and the flexible rotating set. The cast was great, especially Stephanie J. Block (Lilli), Adrian Dunbar (Fred), Georgina Onuorah (Lois Lane/Bianca) and Charlie Stemp (Bill Calhoun/Lucentio). There were even recorders in the orchestra music for the Shakespeare scenes.
Joe noticed that in ‘Always True to You’, Georgina Onuorah took on the mannerisms of the type of man she was singing about (Clark Gable, Midwestern, etc.).
We’ve seen several productions of Kiss Me, Kate, but the most recent had been the NHS production in 2010.
