Murdoch Mysteries, season 1

Murdoch Mysteries is a Canadian series set in Toronto in the 1890’s, adapted from novels of Maureen Jennings. Joe got tired of writers playing fast and loose with science facts, but I enjoyed it and just finished the first season. The series is still going on, and about to begin its 19th season.

I like the ensemble: Yannick Bisson (Detective William Murdoch), Thomas Craig (Inspector Thomas Brackenreid), Jonny Harris (Constable George Crabtree) and Helene Joy (Dr. Julia Ogden).

Highlights:

Belly Speaker (# 9): ventriloquist’s dummy called Mycroft

The Annoying Red Planet (# 13): Dirigibles! UFO’s!  Discussing where secret government research facilities should be located (California? New Mexico?), Inspector Thomas Brackenreid: Ah, you’re all crackers. Wales! Now no-one in their right mind would go there.

Maybe I’ll read the books some day.
