Journey into American Jewish music

I just attended a great program at Temple Aliyah about American Jewish music. Hal Slifer played lots of fun video clips, and I learned a lot. I sat between Aliza and Barbara (who has a tendancy to sing along).

Favorites:

  • The Andrews Sisters singing Bay Mir Bistu Shen
  • Sunrise, Sunset
  • The backstory to Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ in Shrek.

Here is the description of the program:

Join Hal Slifer, host of Chagigah Radio, for a lively, interactive musical event celebrating Jewish music’s rich heritage. Experience a multimedia journey featuring unforgettable songs by legendary Jewish artists—from Al Jolson to Leonard Cohen—along with rare videos, engaging stories, and plenty of audience participation. Brunch will be provided for all attendees.

Chagigah Radio showcases Jewish music from the USA, Israel, and beyond, including pop, Hebrew favorites, Klezmer, Yiddish, Ladino, and more. Hal brings decades of radio and multimedia experience to this 60-minute program, filled with laughter, nostalgia, and the best of Jewish humor.
