The Histories of King Kelson

I just finished The Histories of King Kelson series, the third trilogy of Deryni books by Katherine Kurtz. This trilogy is set in the more ‘modern’ time of the first trilogy which was somewhat of a relief after the second trilogy.

Loris, about Kelson: How dare he think he can threaten us?

The King’s Justice 1985

Had to look this up: Duncan asperges the chapel using a silver aspergillum.

The Quest for Saint Camber 1986
7/16/26-7/20/26
kindle
March 1125
Kelson is 18.

Wondering how one smuggles bagpipes into a knighting ceremony: Even a piper added his salute, on pipes smuggled into the hall past the watchful eyes of the chamberlain Rhodri and his assistants, who were always trepidacious where border custom was concerned.

Festivities after knighting ceremony: Dhugal dancing in the rowdy circle bransle winding its way back and forth across the floor

Ciard, Duncan and Morgan dowse for water to find Kelson and Dhugal, complete with forked sticks.

Kelson and Dhugal wind up in a village called Saint Kyriell’s, apparently a lost stronghold of people calling themselves the Servants of Saint Camber.

Kelson to vision of Camber: You don’t—mind, do you, if I build you shrines?

Kelson to Dhugal, about Rothana: She has been in communication with the Servants of Saint Camber, and they want her to come and help them revive the Order as it used to be, in Camber’s time, with a women’s Order to train for the old Deryni disciplines. She sounds very excited about it.

Vision shown by mysterious stranger to Kelson and Dhugal: Hic jacet Camber Kyriell MacRorie, Comes Culdi: carissimus pater, ministrator coronae Gwyneddi, Regum salvator, sacerdos et episcopos, defensor hominum. Natus est Anno Domini 846. Non mortuus est. Resurget.
