Wickford History Tour & Cocktail Party

Yesterday was Brown Club of Rhode Island’s ‘Wickford History Tour & Cocktail Party’ event. It was great, and the weather was beautiful. The event was sold out, with 35 registrants.

We took the organizer’s recommendation to drive down early, park at the docks, and have lunch before the 2pm tour. We had a nice lunch at Tavern by the Sea and had time to wander around a bit before walking back to the docs for the tour. Joe found very good coffee at Shayna’s Place and we bought an artisinal chocolate bar (saving that for later) at Wickford Cheese and Sundry, which impressed us.

The tour lasted 2 hours, was very interesting and we learned a lot. Here is a picture of Town Historian Tim Cranston (an excellent guide) in front of the Major Samuel Philips, Jr. house, 1773:

After the tour, there was a lovely cocktail party at the nearby Wickford home of Jim Griffeth and Emily Liu.
