We Solve Murders

I’ve enjoyed Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club Mysteries, so I put a hold on the first book in his new series, We Solve Murders. It became available at Minuteman loan after being on hold for 3 weeks. I didn’t like it quite as much as the other series—more thriller, less cozy—but still enjoyed it enough to put a hold on the second book (We Chase Shadows) which was just released.

Bodyguard Amy Wheeler, her father-in-law Steve Wheeler (retired policeman) and thriller author Rosie D’Antonio make a good team as they avoid assassins and try to figure out who is François Loubet.

I liked the book titles, mostly suggested by Rosie:

  • Canceled by Lunchtime, about an assassin who works only in the morning
  • Four Dead Clients
  • The Corpse Hacker, about fingerprint recognition
  • BMW Full of Bullet Holes (this one was Steve’s)
  • A Cat Called Trouble
  • Skyscraper murders
  • We Solve Murders

Other Highlights:

  • On Steve’s Brass Monkey trivia team: Dr. Jyoti Das (widow, alcohol tolerance building steadily) fields all and any medical questions, despite the fact she’s a doctor of medieval history
  • Porter at The Wilberforce to Max Highfield: Within these walls you have more chance of being oil-painted than photographed.
  • Steve to Dictaphone, at the Emerald Bay: Rosie knows the bloke who owns this, so we’re all in suites. She’s in the Presidential Suite. They threw out the prime minister of Japan to put her in there.
  • Adam has also been very smart with his love. When he and Amy met, neither was in the right place for a long term relationship, each traveling the world, Amy punching people, and Adam looking for value in zinc derivatives.
